Kahve – the taste of coffee in the middle of the desert.

2024-09-20

Kahve is the next car to join our portfolio in the category of a unique interior. If we try to describe it in 2 words we could say it is a racing elegant. These words seem to collide but when one gets inside Kahve, it turns out they do work along nicely.

The core of the project is Porsche 911 G-model upgraded with a 993 3.6 engine and transmission. The exterior is a close reference to the ST version, with widened fenders and many accents reminiscent of one of the wildest elfers in the ‘70s.

Why "Kahve"? We wanted our project to be both classic and stimulating - just like coffee, which in the owner's native language translates to kahve.

“I would like it medium rare”

When the backdated process was completed, the car came to us for a new interior. The goal was to find a compromise between the roughness and comfort for daily rides. To find the balance we have implemented several, non-obvious solutions…

Exposed, naked mechanical and body parts always remind of racing cars. Kahves’ central tunnel stays naked, only painted in an exterior’s color, the same as the area around the gauges. The mechanical parts as a pedal box, a hand brake assembly, a shifter kit, a shifter coupler window, were all restored, galvanized and painted to complete the racing look.

The choice of materials was crucial. Apart from a glossy body paint found inside, we used:
•  Grey Alcantara for upper parts
•  A combination of plain brown leather with leather-nubuck basket weave for door cards and seats
•  G-Model black velour (aka. Silver knit carpet)
•  Original Houndstooth Brown floor mats

The selection of materials and their use in specific places brought a touch of coziness and warmed up the aggressive character of this vehicle.

The rest of the floor was covered in a thick, black velour (aka. Silver knit carpet) combined with our original material houndstooth brown floor mats. Beforehand, the floor was cleaned, covered with soundproofing mats and leveled with cross-linked foam.

The trunk compartment mat made of CarBone’s original brown houndstooth material, was designed on the car to fit a non-standard fuel tank and the aftermarket A/C blower unit.

New door cards - Drummers!

Kahve features one of our latest designs - Drummer door pockets. These 3D printed and upholstered pockets are a fusion of retro-futuristic style and functionality. There is enough space for small items like wallets and keys, the inside is layered with a soft velvet and the pocket is closed with the help of a magnet and spring. The pockets were upholstered in coffee color leather, while the door cards are made with the same leather + leather nubuck basket weave in the speakers section.

LeMans

The theme from the door continues through exceptionally well done BF Torino Le Mans seats. These seats cushioning is made not only of foam but also with the use of springs and straps that increase the comfort on long distances. LeMans seats were also a clear choice because of the period correct style. Another advantage is that this model is reclining, and allows for “easier” access to the rear.

Two sides of Alcantara

The top sections of the interior: the top dashboard, upper door parts, rear upper parts and the rear shelf were wrapped in dark-gray Alcantara. Although Alcantara is strictly connected with racing, where it absorbs solar reflections, here it creates an opposite effect - it gives a warm and cozy atmosphere and breaks the brown theme with its neutral shade. Its gentle and pleasing texture contrasts well with the expressive and strong structure of the leather basket-weave.

The dashboard area, besides characteristic color and Alcantara, was given CarBone’s backdating dash trim panel with an applied leather basket weave decor. The decor was also used in a knurled, aluminum ignition switch cover.

Above the trim panel, we have reorganized and installed bespoke knobs reflecting our commitment to detail. The steering wheel is a rewrapped MOMO Prototipo in a soft Alcantara dedicated only for steering wheels.

Classic retrofit air conditioning system works!

This is the third time we have installed a Classic Retrofit air conditioning system in air-cooled Porsches, and we haven't been disappointed. The car came in with a pre-installed system that only worked in a 0-1 setting, without the ability to adjust the temperature or fan speed.
We added an original, refurbished G-model heater/blower panel and connected it to the AC unit. All the vent pipes, which had previously been removed, were revised and reinstalled. Now, the air conditioning works like a modern car's system and is fully adjustable using the panel's sliders.

Treat music seriously…

You can also find a good audio system in Kahve that is not visible to the naked eye. The control unit, a Blaupunkt Bremen, is hidden in a specially modified glove box, maintaining the clean and uncluttered look of the dashboard. The radio connects via Bluetooth automatically whenever you enter the car. The system is connected to an amplifier with four speakers in the front, all on new, high-quality wiring.

Conclusion

Kahve project reflects our passion for creating interiors that honor the legacy of classic cars while integrating modern technology where needed. At CarBone, projects like Kahve serve as a reminder that even the most iconic vehicles can be reimagined and refined without losing their essence. We’re proud to have brought this vision to life and are excited to continue pushing the boundaries of automotive interior design.
